HP Ultraportable revealed

Engadget has got it’s hands on the details of the upcoming HP Ultraportable. Not all details are known, but there is enough for you to start salivating. Screen size is pegged at a good 8.9″ with 1366×766 resolution, oh and it is also ‘scratch-resistant’. Among other details is optional SSD, ExpressCArd54 Slot, WLAN, integrated webcam weighing in at roughly 2.5 pounds. Comes in flavours of Vista or Linux.HP 2133

Oh and did I mention, an almost-full-sized keyboard (95%). That and the high screen res makes it a winner in my books. Screen real estate matters a lot to me, so to see a full sized display on a smaller screen is pure awesomeness! Obviously there isn’t any news yet of the processor and more importantly the Price. If HP is to do well in this market, it will have to be competitively priced with the eee PC

Toshiba about to give up on HD-DVD; atleast one war comes to an end.

Reuters is reporting that Toshiba will be giving up on it’s high definition format, HD-DVD soon. Halting production of all related equipment, the firm will be facing colossal losses, but the biggest thing it will lose it’s face to Sony, who has been the bluraystrongest backer of the rival format Blu-Ray.

This is actually great news for consumers who will finally be able to make a purchase into the High definition video playback world without having to worry about their devices becoming outdated too early. And for those worrying about the prices going higher because of ‘lack of competition’, you are forgetting that with a winner now, a lot of electronic manufacturers will start producing the devices essentially driving prices downwards. And the prices of media will drop soon too to increase adoption among consumers

Android SDK Refresh looks sex-eh!

Google has released a refresh to the Android SDK. The improvements are most noticeable in the GUI which now look a lot more acceptable. I still think they’re very candy-ish but it’s a huge improvement from what we saw recently on the dull palm-esque devices. Developers will now also be able to create their own animations for their applications. In addition the platform now supports OGG among other media codecs. This is a big step forward in maintaining the same concept the platform is built on, openness. While Microsoft may boast of the big depth of 3rd party applications available for it’s products, the WM platform’s openness is limited. Apple at this point is not even worth mentioning. But they should take a page from Google’s book and the direction it has taking the Android platform in. I believe the platform will take off even more once the initial wave of devices start coming out this summer.

P-Per Concept Phone: Sex in your hands

I can swear for my life I have never seen a sexier concept phone in my life. The display on both sides is customisable to the last inch and, is context sensitive. But like most concepts, this too will probably remain in our imaginations for a long time to come, but that still won`t stop me from drooling all over it. Check out the video:
